CHRONICLES OF THE NEW INTERN (1)

Hello bloggers!

I know I haven’t posted blogs in a long while but I suddenly got this spark!

As part of my academic program, I’m required to do a three month internship with any organization that works in public health.

I got accepted in just the right one!

So... I had big dreams for my internship! Like going for trainings around the world :), getting some “modest” stipends and laying the foundation for my international career!

But …

I’m learning that the way up is down. 

You see, I’ve been here for two weeks and what I do mostly is take down minutes, run photocopies for my peeps and arrange venues for meetings… I know, I know… not exactly the picture I had in mind .lol!

I wanted to start on top, you know, suggesting my “brilliant ideas” and wowing people’s minds with my intellectual capacity!

Oh, no. It’s not going to happen that way. I’m having to slowly learn and understand the organization and have by competence tested by doing odd jobs and being the “handy girl”.

I’ll admit, it was disheartening at first, especially when I knew I COULD do more.

Then, I started reading commentaries, especially Oswald Chambers, and I started to realize that one of the true tests of character is how well you do basic, little odd jobs! Maybe, really, it’s a test of my character.

So, I’m having a re-think! If I’m going to be doing basic jobs, then I’m going to give it my BEST shot!

Keep in touch, and we’ll see how it goes! 

  1. It's true that you have to learn the little, sometimes dirty jobs, before you can grow and do the bigger work. Two years later now I guess you should reconsider to move on. Break out of your cage Maz and change that matrix of yours. There is a lot waiting for you out there, you just need to grab the opportunity, God bless you,
